In today's world, media shapes our entire perception of how we see the political atmosphere. This is due to the fact that they are the controlling filter of what gets to the public and they can put a spin on how the audience sees the news. They can control the news that can come into the eyes of the public.
Due to the fact that the media is the way that the public can get their information, it is hugely important for any of the candidates or officials to get their way toward success or defeat. If they fail to do this not only does the media not give the coverage but also they will probably give the coverage to their rival.
Since the media can put their input on the news, if one group controls the entire media then their is just one voice that is speaking to the entire population rather than having a broad spectrum of voices that can give a wider contribution of ideas. The good thing now is that the news is taking to the internet and thus the role of big media is being diluted.
Interest groups are businesses that spend money to try and get the vote of a Congress men over a certain issue that specifically pertains to an issue that effects their business. They are either run by a single entity, a board, or a corporation. This matters because it changes the perspective on which they are run and which areas and how hard they push to get their way from the Congressman.
It's not all bad news for the mass of this country, the people choose who they vote for so they get the final word on the fate of the politicians. Ultimately if they disapprove of the job that they are doing, they will vote them out of the office and thus using their full power of the system. One way that politicians try to play the system is that they pass tax cuts or get pork barrel spending to keep their jobs on the hill.
The reason why this broken system will never be reformed any time soon is that there is no one who wants to reform it that has the control to do so. The thing is that they will not because they are making money off of the system they have now. They will not bite the hand that is feeding them.
