The judiciary is made up of three different levels of courts. The lowest circuit of the courts is the United States District Courts which hear cases about any issue that makes it to the federal courts. When they rule on it, if the case gets appealed it then goes to the United States Courts of Appeals. They rule on the case and if that gets appealed, the next circuit, the Supreme Court is then called upon if they want to hear the case.
The powers of the judiciary are but not limited to reviewing laws to make sure that they do not interfere with the rights of the citizens mentioned in the Constitution. The next thing that they do is they rule on cases that are brought before them in court. They protect the ruling of previous judges if they are inline with the Constitution.
The judiciaries powers are to make sure that neither branch is stepping on the toes of the other, they also make sure that none of the laws that are being passed are crushing the Constitution in any way. This is to allow all three branches to stay together in working harmony. Thus the fact that their is no way for the people to get their rights infringed on through the work of any one branch.
The thing that changes in the judiciary is the way that the justice think about the protection of the Constitution. The feeling that there is about how to not only protect it but also how they interpret the Constitution. With each judge there is a new idea about all this.
The judiciary is supposed to have no connection with political parties for a threat of a biased judge, but the reality is that the only way that a judge gets nominated is if they agree with the political party that the president belongs to. Thus the last president will leave his impact on the supreme court for the future.
The judiciary is also have no connection with interest groups. This is for the same reasons as why they are not supposed to be loyal to one party.
The judiciary does use media though. The thing that they do is they communicate with the media outlets about their rulings with a case and also which cases they are taking on. The other reason that they communicate with the media comes from when they are not yet a judge yet. They use this to get the votes to get into the court.
The courts also communicate with both governments over questionable laws that are maybe controversial with the constitution of either the national government or the state governments. Since they are also dependent upon the government to get into their positions, they have to make fair decisions before to get into that spot.
